Jean McCubbin Craighead, 95, of Cave City, Kentucky, passed away on August 19, 2023. She was born on April 16, 1928, in Campbellsville, Kentucky. Jean was a dedicated wife, mother, and teacher, known for her creative talents and love for her family.
Jean was a skilled seamstress and knitter, often making clothes for her family when her children were young. She also delighted her children with beautifully decorated cakes and was known for her delicious cooking. Every year, she would can grape jelly, showcasing her culinary skills.
In her career, Jean taught Home Economics in Ohio and Hiseville, Kentucky, before becoming a Junior High School teacher at Caverna High School for 15 years. Her passion for education and nurturing her students made her a beloved teacher in the community. She had a smile and kind word for everyone she met.
Jean is survived by her daughters, Anne Honaker (husband Michael Honaker) and Sarah Craighead (husband Rick Shireman), and her son, John Craighead (wife Gail Craighead); grandchildren, Matt Honaker, Kate Honaker Morganett, and Jamie Froggett and great grandchildren, Avery Morganett, Ashton Morganett, Austin Morganett, Linus Honaker, Albie Honaker, and Preston Sitko.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Delmous Craighead and great grandson, Dustin Morganett, II.
Jean received her primary education at Yancy Elementary School and graduated from Harlan High School where she was valedictorian. She furthered her education by earning her bachelor's degree in home economics at Western Kentucky State College.
Jean had a rich and fulfilling life outside of her career and family responsibilities. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, reading, cooking, and even square dancing. These hobbies brought her joy and allowed her to express her creativity. She was a member of Cave City Baptist Church for many years.
Services for Jean will be conducted at Bob Hunt Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at 12:00 Noon. Visitation will take place Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of Service at 12:00 Noon.
Contributions in her memory can be made to KET or Hospice of Southern Kentucky.
Jean's kind and loving nature will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, creativity, and dedication.
