Freda Mae (Carey) Thomason

Ms. Freda Mae (Carey) Thomason, of Cave City, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 16, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 12th, 1939, in Cumberland County, Kentucky. Freda dedicated her life to creating a warm and nurturing home for her family and friends, she never met a stranger, and everyone was always welcomed at her table for coffee or tea. 

Freda’s greatest joy came from spending time with her family and friends. Her homemade apple pies and jam cake were always a huge family favorite. She loved the holidays, baking and making candy for her family and friends. She loved to plant her flowers in the spring and nurture them throughout the summer, she was always proud of the flowers that she grew. 

Freda is survived by her four children: Teresa Coffey and husband Barry, James A. Houchens, Tammy Gossett and husband Rickey, and Chris Thomason. Eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild also survive. 

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Cledith Opal (Branham) Carey, and Oscar Mitchell Carey, three brothers, Freeman Ray, John Howard, and Sherman Allen Carey, and three sisters, Betty Carol Spencer, Doris Ann Carey, and Deloise Faye Moore. 

Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00p.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at Bob Hunt Funeral Chapel in Cave City, with burial to follow in Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Bro. Leon Jones will officiate the service. 

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. and again on Thursday morning after 10:00 a.m. until the service time at 1:00 p.m. at Bob Hunt Funeral Chapel in Cave City.
