Bertha Higdon Hogan

Cave City, Kentucky

Mrs. Bertha (Gossett) Higdon Hogan, age 101, of Cave City, Kentucky passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 9th, 2025, at her home. Bertha was born in Cave City, Kentucky on November 29, 1923, a daughter of the late Henry Thomas and Mary Ellen (Middleton) Gossett. Bertha became a Christian at the age of thirteen at the Cave Springs Baptist Church under the preaching of Bro. Leon Larimore. She was also a member of Victory Memorial Baptist Church in Louisville for about twenty years where she served as Primary Superintendent, G. A. Leader, R. A. Leader, Circle Chairman, and Cub Scout Leader. After moving to another area of Louisville, she held the position of Primary teacher and W. M. President of Hillsdale Baptist Church. There, she helped to revive the membership and get the church back on solid footing, she took census in the area, put on Christmas plays, and visited people every week. She was a Proud Lions Club member and was awarded Citizen of the Year in 2010. Among the many activities Bertha was involved in she also took time out of her busy schedule to visit the nursing homes. She took care of and performed duties for the elderly from the time she was eighteen. Bertha left a lasting legacy to those who knew and loved her. 

She is survived by her children, Gilbert Douglas Higdon, Glenn Dewaine Higdon and wife Mary, Garey Darrell Higdon and wife Rebecca, and Gail Dennis Higdon and wife Tina. Her stepchildren, Dr. Pam Hogan Burnett and Tony Hogan. She was blessed with thirteen grandchildren, Nichole Higdon Sims, Alex Higdon, Josh Higdon, Sarah Higdon Nunley, Daryl Higdon, Garey Higdon, Jr., Greg Higdon, Anastasia Harvey, Tracy Leet, Gloria Higdon Hester, Tanner Eadens Coots, Logan Hampton Coots and Preston Dana Coots. Numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Clyde Higdon, and Ellis Hogan, and her stepson, Dr. Gary Hogan, her siblings, Beulah Ellen Gossett Doyle, Gracie Mae Gossett Sturgeon, Susan Francis Gossett Toohey, Charlie Thomas Gossett, Willie H. Gossett, Claude Lee Gossett, Ray Lewis Gossett, Edith Marie Gossett Hartman, Doris Jane Gossett Hunt, and Orville Roger Gossett. 

Funeral Services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 14, 2025, from Bob Hunt Funeral Chapel in Cave City with interment to follow in Louisville Memorial Garden West. Bro. Keith Robinson will officiate the service. 

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at Bob Hunt Funeral Chapel from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. and again on Friday morning after 9:00 a.m. until the service time at 10:00 a.m.
